The official YouTube channel of the band Garbage. Our first album in 7 years, "Not Your Kind of People" is out everywhere now!
Formed in Madison, WI, in the early 1990s, Garbage has crafted an accessible brand of melodic alternative pop that has achieved critical and commercial success. The original lineup of Butch Vig, Duke Erikson and Steve Marker initially grew out of a jam session in Vig's basement. The group recruited Scottish vocalist Shirley Manson, previously of Angelfish and Goodbye Mr. MacKenzie, before every recording a track. Prior to forming Garbage, Vig had produced a number of notable alternative music acts, including Nirvana Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, and L7. Releasing their self-titled debut in August 1995 Garbage achieved unexpected success after receiving support from MTV and radio. The album began to climb the charts when its second single, "Queer", received heavy radio airplay towards the end of the year. The album received platinum status in the United States on the strength of the singles "Only Happy When It Rains" and "Stupid Girl". Garbage was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist, Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocal for “Stupid Girl”, Best Rock Song for “Stupid Girl” in 1997. In the same year, the remixed version of “#1 Crush” was included on the soundtrack of " William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet." The song was also nominated for Best Song From a Movie at the 1997 MTV Movie Awards. The group subsequently released "Version 2.0", "Beautiful Garbage" and "Bleed Like Me". After touring extensively for "Bleed Like Me" in 2005, Garbage announced it was going on an extended hiatus. During that time, Manson made her acting debut and Vig worked on various production projects, including Green Day's 2009 album "21st Century Breakdown" for which he won a Grammy. Garbage's fifth studio album, "Bleed Like Me, Not Your Kind of People", was released in 2012.
