Tarot Cards, Astrology and Hierarchy
- by Stefan Molyneux
0:17 - If we were somehow able to get a libertarian or voluntary society and government structure tomorrow, what would happen to the massive amounts of classified data and secrets our government controls.
1:21 - What is your opinion on the use of instruments such as the tarot and astrology, as means of self-reflection?
3:35 - What are your general thoughts on hierarchy? Do you think non-coercive hierarchies can be ideal?
6:32 - What are your thoughts about communicating the message of Voluntaryism and peaceful parenting at the workplace? I have experimented with the latter somewhat, but have often wondered about the risk it may pose to my employment.
13:00 - How do you think restraining orders would work in a free society and how would people keep abusive partners away...what's the solution?
16:01 - Why are women so hard to talk to? (note: I'm male, I try to be very accepting and reasonable and rational but women seem unable to do anything like that in discussion) Maybe my question is really: how do you reason with the unreasonable?
19:02 - I recently heard you say that negotiation is very important for a free society and i agree, it's key to being a decent human being, I understood that on some unconscious level from an early age but what other core concepts would you say are key to being a decent human being universally preferable?

Is Anger Healthy?
- by Stefan Molyneux
0:06 - Why are so many young men and boys uninterested, apathetic and non-committal? What and how do we fix this?
4:58 - I often hear it said that the key to breaking the cycle of violence is anger. But I don't think it's healthy to hold on to anger. To me " Holding onto anger is like drinking poison in hopes of it killing your enemy". I think the better emotion is outrage. Anger has a negative connotation associated with it that outrage does not. When I talk about these issues I usually tell people they should be "outraged" by the injustices done to them instead of "angered".
8:44 - When does a state become an empire? Does it depend on style of government? Size of land? Cultural conquest? The point at which the Roman Republic became an empire seems rather arbitrary. And America had so many eras of "expansion," I'm tempted to call the 13 original confederated states an Empire from the start.
9:50 - I was just wondering what you thought about the way children are often used as 'actors' in movies, series, etc, even at ages where they wouldn't be able to distinguish between fact and fiction?I often see movies where they throw a mother and child in to a chaotic situation to add to the drama element of the movie, which worries me. Do you think this experience leaves some kind of impression on those children that may cause for them to have problems later down the line?
13:23 - What are your thoughts on the idea that property rights and the NAP are simply subjectively "thought up" as the best possible way to maximize human happiness, freedom, and "goodness"?
16:30 - Where is the logical step between humans exhibiting ownership of themselves and self-ownership becoming a universal principle? How do property rights emerge simply from exclusive usage of our bodies?
19:38 - Do you think certain criticisms of the homesteading principle such as building a border fence around unused land or building a small house in somebody's untouched back yard are property issues that have absolute principled axiomatic answers? In other words, is there one solid individual objective truth to be found in each one of these cases?

Passing Freaking Laws for Liberty??? Stefan Molyneux's Listener Mailbag...
- by Stefan Molyneux
0:20 - Is saving money universally preferable?
5:40 - How do I respond when somebody tells me that I'm too young to know about a subject and I don't know what I'm talking about because I haven't experienced it personally?
9:25 - Does physical appearance matter?
14:37 - Is it right to expect inheritance from your parents who are responsible for bringing you into the world? Is it a responsibility of parents to leave their children inheritance?
17:35 - In your YouTube video "Exploring Buddhism" at 20:35 through 20:55 you said, " If your husband or wife gets snatched, black bagged, or killed; this is significant mental anguish to deal with, because somebody has done an evil action in your environment". In your YouTube video "Life in a Mental Zombie Apocalypse" at 16:00 through 16:05 you said, in reference to 9/11." Nothing causes human responses because people have different responses to the same events". These ideas appear contradictory to me. Would you please explain how they are not contradictory to you?
23:27 - What are your thoughts are on horror movies? I am personally disgusted by them and can't understand why anybody would watch or create one, it seems to me you have to be very disturbed. I can't tell if I should feel this way or if I'm overly sensitive as I have yet to find another person who feels the same way.
26:29 - After listening to this past Sunday call in show, how do I know if I can't think?
26:45 - What do think of voluntary segregation where like-minded people form a small nation? Human diversity is such that there may always be those who wish to own or be slaves. Instead of trying to convert the hoard into the same personality type, why not simply move to where people uphold your same set of core values? These places may only be small cities, but at least true freedom could exist in some. Groups should divide and divide until they form communities of people in near full agreement on basics such as the N.A.P. Currently, nations expect tens of millions to conform to one personality type, and this is preposterous.
29:22 - What's your philosophical view about porn?
31:05 - My wife has reservations about a future where a driver's license wouldn't be required by law. How would you approach this point?
31:34 - Do you think professional sports would exist in a free society?
37:58 - Recent stories about the NSA's shadowy 'Project Prism' imply that government surveillance via technology is increasing. Do you agree that the internet is a capitalist invention used to benefit the state? If we can't trust what is rapidly becoming the paramount distributor of information, media and resources for youth especially, then all we seem to be doing when embracing technology is accepting yet another cage.
38:59 - You often say that government actions do not reflect the will of the people, but precisely what people do NOT want, otherwise there wouldn't need to be a law to force them to comply and I totally agree with that. However, what about laws abolishing slavery, violence against women or child abuse? At the beginning, could it be virtuous to force bad behaviour out of existence? But of course, that would be an argument against freedom, and for coercion, which I'm very uneasy about to say the least. What do you think?
41:40 - Can a voluntary society have room for borders?
41:50 - I've often heard you refer to Ayn Rand's works, Atlas Shrugged and Fountainhead. Do you think men like John Galt and Howard Roark really exist, have you met anyone that comes close, and most importantly do you think they would have made good fathers? None of Ayn Rand's heroes ever have children. How many kids are abandoned by their fathers in their quest for Rearden metal or the perfect motor?
44:44 - Do you have any suggestions how not to exist in a near constant state ranging from irritation to rage at the shortsightedness of people?

Stand With Me!
- by Stefan Molyneux
0:05 - You tend to use the word "believe" frequently. I've always considered words like believe and hope to be squirrelly concepts, and tend to avoid them (unless I want to be intentionally squirrelly). Question: when you use the word in your lectures, what do you intend the meaning of "believe" to be?
1:25 - What is the appropriate way to deal with people who are in government or the military or police, etc., since they tend to think they are already being moral and good people?
3:27 - I agree that the change to freedom will probably take generations, but how big do you think is the risk of things going so far down tyranny road that there would be no way back. especially with this new police state technologies... So my proposal would be to do what we can for the future- peaceful education, and at the same time to make sure that in the short term things don't get extreme.
7:52 - Does eating animal products such as milk, eggs and meat violate the non-aggression principle?
9:57 - Could your views on religion (and by extension, the religious) be viewed as a type of collectivism? Can it be considered collectivist to stereotype the religious without knowing them individually?
11:51 - How can I prepare for therapy?
13:06 - Why did you elect mainstream chemo and radiation treatment rather than a free market, non-establishment treatment? Why do you trust the medical establishment when they engage in fraud, monopoly, coercion, propaganda and collaboration with the state? They have probably already cured cancer but suppress the cures.
15:24 - How important is homeschooling a child? What do you suggest to solve issues of friendships? Also a child brought up by your standards is likely to be far more intelligent and open minded than other children their age, how would this effect the child around those children? Is there any important aspect of public education which can be missed out in homeschooling and how would you suggest to fill in these gaps?
17:14 - I am currently in high school and since I started to become a lot more aware of the world around me, all I have felt like doing is slamming my head against a wall every time I listen to my teachers. I genuinely want to learn a lot of the things that are being taught but the way schools are currently is so frustrating. Well my actual question is, what is your views on schooling and how did you deal with it when you were younger?
20:52 - Since I have been putting a lot of effort in being a non-aggressor and just generally being a nice person, I have noticed that I feel really bad when I fail to walk the talk. I obviously blaim my parents for this but since people don't make that connection, I feel a strong responsibility to take it up on myself and attack myself for my failure to be good. These slips don't occur often but they stand out since I have become a much better person. Since you had a bad childhood yourself and thus might have to deal with the same issue I do, what do you do and feel when you fail to walk your talk?
23:46 - In the Sunday Show video 'Reality As Conspiracy' you say that you cannot grant anybody the label of virtue. On the other hand, I've heard you many times say that you love your listeners, the world, etc. I also understand that you adhere to Ayn Rand's definition of love - involuntary response to virtue. Since, as you say in the show, virtue is not easy, and you have no knowledge regarding the virtue of those you say you love, then you must be referring to another kind of love - which? This has been bugging me for a while, since I am an avid consumer of your podcasts and books. Could you please elaborate on this? I would really appreciate it.
27:10 - What is your best argument to yelling parents? We have some relatives and friends who yell at their children. When I comment on the situation, they react as if I shouldn't get involved in their parenting.
33:14 - I try to be very rational and reasonable in my life; I'm a scientist, but sometimes I catch myself suspending my doubts or questions when I know someone probably has already doubted/questioned themselves, e.g. other scientists whom I know to be rational and applying the scientific method, am I overlooking some pitfall here? I know we should really question everyone/everything to find the truth but is it perhaps okay in that instance?
38:40 - What would be an accurate philosophical definition of "Human Capital"?

How We Are Broken
- by Stefan Molyneux
0:04 - I have the following question. To what extent can one judge individuals as "bad people" if we acknowledge that people's behavior and attitudes are largely (if not totally) determined by their upbringing and the conditions that they are exposed to during their formative years. Can one even go as far as to say that blame is something that one can't assign to individuals, but instead only to the unfortunate circumstances that these individuals experienced?
3:56 - Have you told Isabella about your lymphoma diagnosis?
5:01 - Why do you field all of the calls about abuse, neglect, etc? It seems really painful to me, and I have personally had a difficult time even trying to skirt around the edges in my own mind, let alone bring these things up with people around me.
9:52 - If the Statists were coming to Collectivize your home and property tomorrow, what would you do? (I'm sure you know this was the experience of the Soviet-occupied citizenry, who were then allowed to rent their own property back from the state in many cases.) And, is there any occasion you would be willing to take up arms? What about violence in defense of self and family?
10:44 - I believe you've referenced peaceful parenting many times, as a "way forward" to a stateless society. I know a couple that does NOT spank or raise their voices at their children, yet I KNOW they'll inculcate a strong belief in statism in their children. How does this mesh with your assertion that a society which doesn't initiate aggression against children will lead to a stateless society?
14:48 - What differentiates anarcho-capitalism form that which the Tea Party and Republicans/Conservatives are peddling?
17:18 - I completely understand your aversion to any taxes, but what would you say to a "community contract" where a group of private citizens sign a general contract where they would pay a "contribution" toward any specific goal?
17:50 - Certain personalities who claim to stand for libertarian ideals are themselves playing a sort of disinformation shell game. To be more specific I am referring to personalities like Alex Jones and Glen Beck, who promote and espouse very rational libertarian ideals and philosophy alongside some very daft fringe conspiracy theories and in doing so rob them of their legitimacy. Could these people actually be doing this intentionally as a way to marginalize and discredit the very real threat libertarian ideals pose to vested interests?
20:36 - Given the natural variation between people- wont an anarchic free market favour those who are bestowed with natural talents? And if this situation were to persist doesn't there grow a collective pressure within the majority out-group to address this imbalance using their willpower? Doesn't intervention inevitably escalate to the creation of a state and then on to the downfall of that state?
23:10 - I was recently listening to your video "Help I'm a Recovering Political Activist!", and an early point you brought up to the caller was the history of failure attached to the Libertarian Party (LP) in particular and political activism (PA) in general in regards to shrinking the size/scope of the state. It got me to thinking of one of the main critiques of statists in regards to the theory of a stateless society: the lack of success of stateless societies in the past and present, and of promoters of anarchy since Lysander Spooner. You always reject these arguments on the grounds of "what existed in the past is no indicator of future trends". However, I've heard you, many times, refer to the 40+ year failure of the LP in achieving its goals, as well as the 200+ year failure of PA (starting w/the American constitution), in limiting the size/scope of govt. Well, my question is: why can YOU reference the HISTORY of the LP/PA as evidence as for its uselessness, but opponents of anarchy CAN'T reference ITS history as the same?

Why, Oh Why Did I Have a Child?
- by Stefan Molyneux

0:58 - Given that world is rife with problems that are only getting worse, I would like to know why he decided to have a child. Why put a child in modern society's path? Wouldn't it have been easier to leave it as a truly free spirit on some astral plain rather than bring it to Earth, born into wage and statist bondage?
5:30 - As taxation is clearly theft and amoral and is used for heinous acts on the part of the government, it is certainly immoral to contribute to this government through paying taxes or any other way. My question, then, is do you pay your own taxes?
7:43 - What book has the distinction of being the most influential upon your perspective?
8:28 - How does an anarcho-capitalist society protect priceless artifacts?
9:47 - In The Fountainhead, Gail and Dominique both talk about how they do not get the same feeling from nature that they do from skyscrapers or the New York skyline. I find that I get the same sort of "wow" feeling from each of them. Do you think this could be a result of religious indoctrination that I couldn't completely shake off, because I might be subconsciously perceiving nature as something created or am I missing her point entirely?
13:00 - In The Fountainhead, why does Dominique not punish herself by trying to marry Toohey who has a complete understanding of his evil instead of Gail?
13:38 - I am an anarcho-capitalist. I work for a local government agency as an assistant to an elected official. I have the opportunity of advising him on a daily basis how to decrease the influence, power, and theft of the local government agency. Do you believe this is hypocritical of me?
15:08 - What do you think of Leonard Peikoff thoughts that it's morally justifiable to nuke Iran and that Israel is the only "moral entity" in the Middle East?
17:54 - If we do not try to hold our elected officials accountable for their criminality, who is going too? Why do you believe there can be no consequences for these people, in the long run? What do you see as the inevitable end to all the evil, which is unfolding in front of all of us?
22:55 - Why don't enough people believe that economic incentive is the only driving force that could possibly improve our world. It's as if they feel its unethical, why is that?
26:07 - How would you respond to these general assertions?
"If you don't support our soldiers, you can go follow someone else. I would bet that you aren't a part of a military family and have NO IDEA what we go through. And its all so you can sit back and say "don't support war or soldiers." NO. the soldiers don't like the war any more than anyone else. But they are willing to sacrifice their lives to save you. So please. Go spread your "anti-soldier" rant somewhere else. After Vietnam, when people blamed the soldiers, and not the government for the war, they regretted it. After they made the soldiers outcasts. And said that they were evil. They realized twenty years later that these men did not agree with the war any more than themselves. But these men fought for their country when asked to, instead of sitting at home behind a screen cursing the lives of loved men and women. I don't care if you support the war. War is wrong. But support the men and women who go and risk death so you can play your drums and sit behind your screen."
