We just recently revisited St. John a few months ago and decide to take our camera gear to capture the beautiful backdrop that makes this island so special to us. We had a lot of fun shooting this and hope you enjoy our little slice of heaven.
Only 1/10th on the footage we shot made it into this video. Wish we could make a 12 minute version, but no one would be interested in something like that right? :-)

Solar Eclipse 2012 (4K Resolution)

We were looking for a safe way to view the Annular Solar Eclipse on May 20, 2012, so we pulled out our camera and put on some filters. It turned out to be a great way for the family to gather around and watch. We were really excited to catch the "ring of fire" effect but the clouds rolled in and blocked our view. We will have to wait until 2023 for the next annular eclipse in our area.

We couldn't resist bringing our Epic camera, as we just got our new Canon mount, and our first Canon lens. We didn't shoot much as we were out enjoying the country, but what we did get we figured we would share here on YouTube. (Katie's note: There was lots of hikes where we packed the camera in with us and then forgot to film because we were having a good time. What a beautiful place!)

This is a short story I did to challenge myself to finish a project at 4k Resolution (4096x2156). I've been shooting 4k with RED's cameras for several years now but always finished my work in 1080p and I decided that I was getting too comfortable and needed to push myself. The process of finishing in 4K was not as painful as I thought and I learned a lot in the process. If you are interested in learning how I finished this film in 4k I'll be posting a video/blog in the near future outlining it.

We know this is a detour from our typical nature videos, but Katie and I wanted to experiment with our friend Josh Rossi and utilizing his amazing photography and photoshop skills to tell a short story and have a little fun. We flew our good friend, Christan Mortensen, from LA who plays "Preacher" in the most recent Medal Of Honor video game to add some extra star power to this video. As always, we do everything in 4K now, as we truly believe it is the future and is the best way to future proof our projects.
Josh Rossi is an amazing photographer and if you haven't already seen his work you NEED to. We were really fortunate to collaborate with him on this project and hope to do more projects with him in the future.
