I think this is a great look - its dramatic and yet still wearable. The crease - as per the picture - is strong without a blended brow highlight. Its a form of a cut crease i guess. I like it anyway. And Lisa has such amazing eyes that making them up is a dream.

Its also worth noting that the lights here are so bright that they "bleach" out the skin. It is often times necessary to use "more" foundation than is necessary for tutorials. Lisa actually requires very little in real life.

In every makeup artists arsenal there has to be one eyeshadow look that works on all eye shapes regardless.

This, to me, is the classic eye. The reason i think its classic is that it follow the principles of highlighting and contouring. While you cannot see it here - you will fully in a full face tutorial coming - but the outer edge of this eyeshadow look actually connects to the upper cheek highlight.

This technique works because all we are using here are principles of light and dark. It doesn't matter if you want to use green, or blue or pink, the principles remain the same. Lightest. Midtone. Contour. Eyeliner.

Once you know the basics you can do anything.

Some notes:

If you have:

Deep set eyes - consider OVER applying the brow and lid highlight. This will bring the eyes out even more.

Hooded eyes - careful with the eyeliner. A push liner brush might be a better option as this will maximise your lid space.

Wide Set eyes - easy on the inner eye highlight.

Close set eyes - same principles apply as to the deep set eyes.

This look was inspired because i saw a lady at the laura mercier counter who was wearing the same look - it was day time - and i loved it. There is nothing wrong with rocking out a smokey eye during the day. Who says it has to be VERY natural. What is night time extreme to one might be day time to another.

I've rimmed the eye two ways so you can see the difference in using a light colour and a deep colour. Neither (on me) opened or shrank the eye - but everyones eye is different.

I think its really important with a smoky eye not to go to extreme with brows. I think the more natural the better otherwise it can look very contrived.

This is not a classic smoky eye because with a classic smoky eye the shape is normally "round", darkest at the lash line and fading up into nothingness. Whereas in this version we have created depth from the outside corner in. I think this version is slightly more "vampy".

I wanted to use the Tom Ford Titanium Smoke Palette for this look - as i wanted to show you what the colours and the pigment look like.

Tom Ford eyeshadow palettes retails at £62 which sound expensive but when you think that a palette of 4 eyeshadows from bobbi brown are £72 for the same amount of size, its not that scary! In fact bobbi brown, MAC and laura mercier are all more expensive gram for gram than Tom Ford.

If you have hooded eyes its very important to go "into the hood" because you need to see the colour. On all eye shapes its important to HIT THE CREASE and above otherwise you will run the risk of making your eyes look very small bad "piggy".

If you have deepest eyes the colour must come onto the brow-bone otherwise you will look like you have two black holes in your head!

This look works the best on close set, normal and Asian eyes because with asian eyes you have a huge amount of space to work with. So go for it.

Don't' be scared about bring the colour up under the brow. You will blend so it won't look as scary. Sometimes eyeshadow looks worse before it gets better.

I also used Too Faced Shadow insurance primer first and lengthened the tail of my brow with MAC blonde eyebrow pencil.

I used the end of my brow as a guideline for how far to take the eyeshadow out.

NOTE: Whenever you do any form of smoky eye - always remember the rest of your makeup should be in balance. If they eye is very STRONG in colour - then adding a natural shade of blush and lipstick is always a safe bet. Going either one shade lighter or darker than your own lip shade is great.

QUICK MAKEUP TIP - MISTAKE PROOF EYESHADOW!

Many years ago bringing the eyeshadow up onto the crease was a technique that was mainly used by makeup artists. Now its something that most women do. The trouble with crease work is that sometimes it becomes difficult to know how far to bring the eyeshadow out. Often we can create a shape that is unflattering to the eye - i.e. - pulling the eyeshadow "down" making the eye look "droopy" not a good look.

This simple technique gives you a guideline so that you know not to bring the eyeshadow out or dan any further than the line we "created" with loose powder.

Its so simple but it can help us in creating a more "lifted" and beautiful eye.

This video is about blending only. Its not so much about the finished product - but how we got there.

Truth is purple is my favourite colour. I love it. I hate pissing around with more than 3 colours on the eye i really do. With good blending techniques two colours (and a liner) are plenty. Blending can turn a bright purple (example) into any shade of violet when paired with a lighter colour (bisque).

The MAC 217 brush is ideal and along with MAC 226 brush one my favourites. I prefer the MAC 217 brush for blending because the shape of it will fit most eyes. Using brush guards will prolong the life and shape of your brush and bristles.

Sigma do a version of the MAC 217 brush but its not one of my favourite brushes. I find the shape doesn't run evenly - meaning one brush may look different from another and i find the quality scratchy. However i know that many people love this brush - so its worth checking it out - as you never know.

As you'll see going along, i am using only the lightest touch. For a less dramatic look only apply the colour on the eyelid (dark colour) and blend. This will bring it up onto the crease and will give a less dramatic look.

I cannot stress enough the importance of using a light touch. I mean really light touch. I know you see me man-handling Mandy (lol) but that is mainly for silliness. If you work with a makeup artist normally one of the things you'll first notice is how "soft" they are on the eyes when applying eyeshadow.

Bare in mind that any form of makeup artistry requires practice. Practice practice practice and in time you will get it.

Some are lucky and have it down pat right way - that was and never has been me! lol

I truly believe you can do so much with only a couple of colours. I have 100s but i only tend to use the same ones over and over again. What a waste!

My favourite brand of cosmetics (for eyeshadows) are Makeup Atelier Paris - because they offer amazing pigmentation and the price is great. There has been a recent price increase but the eyeshadow palettes remain the same i believe. Makeup Atelier do eyeshadow palettes, single eyeshadows and artistic eyeshadows. I recommend the palettes or singles most of all.

HOW TO: PREVENT EYESHADOW FALLOUT!!!!

In all honestly, for me, fall out isn't an issue because i do the eyes first - so any fallout can be cleaned away easily then i apply the rest of the face.

Another way is to use loose powder under the eye - this will catch the fall out and with a clean brush or fan brush dust the loose powder and fallout away.

But for many foundation comes first then eyeshadow - and then fallout becomes a real issue - especially if you are using dark colours.

Shadow Shields are a great option but sadly they are to be used and thrown away - making them expensive in the long run.

Enter Silcopad. A silicone pad that is placed under the eye to catch eyeshadow fallout. BUT - its re-useable. All you do is wash and it and - hey presto - its ready to use again. The shape of these all means that they act as a template for the otter V of the eye! This template really does work for this and can make applying makeup much easier.

I have filmed a tutorial using these - so i will post that soon so you can see first hand what they are like.

NOTE: These do work over powdered skin - but i honestly think they adhere better to skin that is not powdered. Yes there might be a little bit of "movement of foundation or concealer" but that can be easily blended back in.

They cost £12.99 here in the UK and money well spent. I bought 3 sets and i love them :)

Kim Kardashian Wedding Makeup Tutorial

If you look at the average bridal eyeshadow tutorial they are mostly the same. One light shade all over the eye and lined eyes. In all honesty there is no such thing as a standard bridal eyeshadow or makeup for that matter. It really is what the bride wants.

For this tutorial I wanted to create a romantic, slightly sleepy look. I happen to love this look and it's one I do often on brides as the focus is on the eyes without any real extemes.

Plus it adds a layer of pink. Pink is a very requested eyeshadow colour from brides but at the same time hard to pull off as it can often times make the eyes look sore.

Pink and brown look beautiful together so I wanted to combine these two elements.

Notice the entire looks is matte other than the use of a small amount of diamond powder on the inner eye.

Why?

Because matte skin and matte eyeshadows photograph better than shimmer and this is certainly a time when you want your photos to look amazing!

NOTE: This was filmed in HD and UP CLOSE! From a distance these lashes look even more amazing and "real" compared with other fake eyelashes. I prefer "mink" (they are cruelty free) for weddings as these look more natural.

HOW TO: REMOVE YOUR MAKE UP

I HAVE NOT INCLUDED BEST MAKEUP REMOVERS - mainly because pure mineral oil is just great and its soooo inexpensive. Most makeup removers are great - so don't think you have to buy very expensive ones - you don'.t

If you are using any kind of heavy makeup or waterproof makeup a makeup remover is essential. You don't have to buy really expensive ones but please make sure you're using one. Pure mineral oil is a great option for makeup removal as is Vaseline and pure oils.

Shu uemura cleansing oil and Nars cleansing oil are also very very good. Nars being my favourite.

Cleansing: cleansing the skin is one of the most important steps in keeping skin healthy. But most people do it wrong!
When was the last time you honestly spent 60 full seconds cleansing your skin? Most people spend 10 seconds washing their face! Try cleansing your skin for 60 seconds you will be surprised how much makeup will be removed without using a makeup remover.
If possible use a gentle water based cleanser. Cetaphil is a great option. Use whatever you enjoy.

If you have the money and or suffer from dry rough skin then investing in a clarisonic is a great investment. I bought mine nearly two years ago and its been one of the best investments I've bought. It cleans and exfoliates the skin. 60 seconds and everything is gone.
I love mine but they are pricey sadly.

How often you use it depends on your skin. Some use it twice a day for 60 seconds some use it once a day and others a few times a week. Let your skin guide you.

Now you are ready to use whatever skin treatments you like at night which for some skin types might be none at all.

Morning routine:

If you were using heavy creams or lotions the night before then make sure you clean your skin in the morning.

Regardless of what you used make sure to clean your skin with a cleanser for at least 10 seconds in the morning.

Please use sunscreen.

NOTE:

I keep my skin care routine very simple.

At night I cleanse my skin then I apply retin-a to my face. Thats my evening routine!

In the morning I use the clarisonic for 60 seconds. I then apply sunscreen and that's it.

Once/twice a week I might use a AHA 10% peel but that depends on my skin and how it's feeling.

There is a very common misconception that retin-a exfoliates. It doesn't. The dry flakey skin you often get from using retin-a isn't exfoliation!

Listen to your skin and respect it.

NOW TO: NAKED (NO MAKEUP) MAKEUP

Also, this kind of makeup (with stronger eyes perhaps) is great for weddings. Because we've contoured and highlighted the skin - this adds dimension - which means it photographs like a dream.

If you're planning on doing wedding makeup make sure NO products contain SPF of any kind - yes - this is the one day not to wear SPF as they photograph poorly compared to foundations without them.

Kett Creme foundation is waterproof - so its stays put. Kett Hydro foundation is water-resistant. As i've been going ON AND ON AND ON about how good this is - i thought i would just show you. Also, the Hydro foundation does not have to be used with an airbrush machine - hence why i used it with a stippling brush. Granted when used through an airbrush the result is more beautiful, but you will still get the most flawless skin - without looking like you're wearing foundation - hence why i love it so.

HOW TO APPLY EYESHADOW TO HOODED/ASIAN EYES/ALMOND EYES

Here is a quick tutorial going through the steps it takes to make hooded eyes more open. I think you can really see the difference at the end that this technique makes to hooded eyes, especially those on more mature skin.

Brush used: Make Up For Ever 17s brush.

Eyeshadow used: MAC Brown Down and MAC Coffee eyeliner pencil.

NOTE: Don't be limited by using a brown colour. You can use whatever colour you like just make sure its darker than the shimmer you might use on the inner corner and make sure that it contains little to no shimmer as you don't want to highlight the wrinkled or loose skin at the out corner of the eye.

NOTE: I have idea if Mandy's eyebrow was raised slightly during the "wink" it does appear to be slightly - you know "surprised wink face". Its very very saddening for me to receive so many comments telling me i "cheated" and held her brow or such comments. I've watched and and watched and rewatched the ending of this - and it does appear the brow is slightly lifted but i cannot express ENOUGH that I DID NOT ALTER HER EYEBROW AT ALL - it would never occur to me to do that EVER and it saddens me i have to explain this again.

This look is very similar to the one that Christina is wearing in the video while she is rolling around on the bed!

This is a VERY dramatic look and not one that i tend to do that often. But its fun to step out of your comfort zone and play with colour. Its only makeup. The colours and techniques have been exaggerated as you can see with the brow highlight etc... i just wanted to play with colour and do something a little more ... drag! Have fun x

I got a little glimpse behind the scenes of the Rihanna diamonds video (gotta love google!) and thought I would come up with a eyeshadow tutorial look for it. Its very similar to what she is wearing. I also think this look is totally wearable everyday as its not too strong and yet contains just the right amount of "sparkle" without being overbearing and because no shadow was used underneath the eye its much more of day time look.

We all want lots of makeup. Lots of brushes. Lots of choices. But you really don't need lots of colours or brushes to create a simple smokey eye. It can be down with one single eyeshadow, loose or pressed powder and one brush!

I didn't even line the upper lash line. Which in hindsight would have completed the look but it goes to show that with practice, you can create a smokey eye in minutes without breaking the bank.
