Blast in Syria's Hama kills at least 70 despite UN ceasefire
Up to 70 people have been killed in an attack on a house in Hama, according to Syrian activists. They say that several houses in the Masha at-Tayyar district in southern Hama were destroyed by a big explosion. Ongoing violence is being reported in towns across Syria, despite a UN-brokered ceasefire - part of a peace plan proposed by the joint UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan. Following the attack in Hama, activists posted video on YouTube showing the scenes of devastation after the blast. The opposition Syrian National Council has called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting "so that it can issue a resolution to protect civilians", as the UN observer mission continues inside Syria.

'Planetary Resources' unveil their asteroid mining mission
What do director James Cameron, Google's Larry Page, some former NASA scientists, a physics professor and the former CTO of Microsoft have in common? They're all involved in 'Planetary Resources', a company which on Tuesday unveiled its plans to mine asteroids for resources. News of the company's high-profile investors ensured that journalists flocked to the company's hotly-anticipated press conference on Tuesday, with many more watching the event through an online stream. The company also outlined its mission on their website: "There are near-limitless numbers of asteroids and more being discovered every year. More than 1,500 are as easy to reach as the Moon and are in similar orbits as Earth. Asteroids are filled with precious resources, everything from water to platinum. Harnessing valuable minerals from a practically infinite source will provide stability on Earth, increase humanity's prosperity, and help establish and maintain human presence in space".
