This is what I wrote to someone recently and I believe it holds water: Think to some Christians the word Atheist means evil. Likewise to some Atheists the word Christian has become to denote, lies, hatred, untruth. So even if I told you the earth is round, the sky is blue, and the grass is green you would call me a liar before ever agreeing with me at all. Even though all the above are true and accurate. If I started to agree with you on any point you would start to argue against it. The word Christian is a trigger of unbelief in your system and your defenses are high against it. So therefore, even when I am right, I am wrong.
