Do you know how to speak Korean?
- Yes. I can even read and write Korean. However, the longer you do not speak a language the more difficult it gets.
How did you learn Korean?
- I lived in Korea for 2 years. From January 2004 to January 2006. During that time, I was only surrounded by Koreans. I took up my own independent studies and made sure that I immersed myself in Korean culture. I really didn't speak much English for those two years. I have now been back in Canada for going on 5 years. So, I have not really been speaking Korean for 5 years. While in Korea, I would consider myself fluent because I had no difficulty speaking or understanding. But now, HOLY CRAP! I am not as good for sure!
Do you have any tips on learning Korea?
Yeah. The biggest tip I can give you is to go to Korea and learn from native speakers. My obscure and awkward Korean Lessons will teach you a few things... but, learning a language is more than learning words. It is learning the culture too. You need to learn how Koreans act and react in certain situations and you need to be able to mimic that! Do you have a Korean name?
- Yes. It is Kim Jin Sim. Jim Sim meaning True Heart. I would type it in Korean. However, my keyboard lacks the ability to do so. The name True Heart originated when I was 12 years old learning how to break dance. When I was 14, I asked my Korean friend Tae Gyu what my Korean name would be and he told me Jin Sim. Years later while learning Korean I found that Jin means Truth/True and Sim means Heart/Soul.
How did you get interested in Korea?
- When I was 14, I had a few Korean friends that introduced me to KPOP and would feed me Bulgogi whenever I went over to their home. Because of their friendship and delicious Bulgogi I started to love Korea. It wasn't until I actually went to Korea when I developed a true love for the people and culture.
Where do you live?
I live in Canada. I grew up in the Vancouver, British Columbia area and am now living in Calgary, Alberta. If you see me, say "HI".
Who is your favorite KPop Group?
Hard to say... because I like so many. However, right now I am really liking 2NE1. I also do listen to many others... but, it seems like 2NE1 is the only thing that I listen to in my car!
